Transparent Toaster

While you are rushing to get things done, you may end up with a burnt toast.

The transparent toaster lets you have a right toast.

This amazing toaster works with transparent heating glass technology which allows you to see the bread while toasting.

Now you can easily turn off the toaster once the bread has turned moderately brown.

Brother MFC-6490CW

Brother MFC-6490CW.pictureI use AutoCAD at work and occasionally at home. My hubby and I jumped when we saw this printer: just had to get it! The print is as good as on the 11×17 HP inkjet at work, and this 11×17 scanner is a better size than any of the workplace ones (although I haven’t used that function yet).
Hubby managed to hook up the 6490 to our home wifi without help, and no, he didn’t set our wifi up originally, and no, he doesn’t really understand how wifi works. In fact, hubby is visually handicapped! I’d rate ease of installation to wifi as 5 stars. The only glitch we had was that we didn’t know we had a firewall, but the install disc talked us though that step too.
So now I’m sitting in bed typing on my Dell 1520 XP and sending to the printer in the other room. I don’t know how it goes through ink, but will post back if I have an issue about that or anything else in the future.

Edit added 9-6-08: We just changed the first ink cartridge. I’ve been printing mainly with black, but also did about 300 very small (2″x3″) photos with lots of sky. We managed 700 copies on the first black cartridge as far as I can tell. Cyan is at 50% and magenta and yellow don’t really show as being low yet. The machine has been beeping for the last week warning us black was low, but only today did it quit printing due to lack of ink. The last page it did was as good as the first, so I have to wonder exactly how low that ink was when it quit on us. At any rate: we had no wasted prints from low ink and it was nice enough to tell us it had stopped. Can’t say that with the HP at work!

Toshiba Satellite C655-S5119

Toshiba-Satellite-C655-S5119.picture

My husband and I have been Amazon Prime customers for years, and very rarely have had problems with anything we’ve purchased on this site. However, on Black Friday on their Lightning Deal they had a bad description re: this Toshiba laptop.

This was a gift for my Mom in Hawai’i because we wanted to Skype with her using a laptop with a built in webcam and mike. As soon as she got the laptop and indicated there was no webcam, I contacted Amazon’s customer service to see how the situation could be resolved given I didn’t think it made sense to ship an otherwise perfectly acceptable laptop back from Hawai’i if I could get some sort of credit to pay for a webcam/mike purchase.

Their partial refund offer they worked out was more than acceptable, and I used that to buy a webcam for my Mom which she should be getting in the next few days.

I could’ve even bought a HD webcam with the refund they gave, but unfortunately the GHz on this laptop didn’t justify such a purchase. It wasn’t an ideal situation at all since a built-in would’ve been much better for my Mom, but their customer service made it as right as they could quickly and I am very happy with the solution.

From a long time customer, Amazon has now ensured my continued loyalty for a quite a while and I cannot say anything but good about their customer service.

HP Pavilion G60-230US

HP-Pavilion-G60-230US.pictureThe G70-250US laptop is a very capable laptop but with a 17″ screen it is not a lightweight. After 3 days of use these are my initial comments. The “HP Imprint” silver finish on the keyboard is very smooth which has a glassy feel which I didn’t’ like initially, but it may grow on me. The 4 directional keys, which are grouped below the right shift key, are half height keys which seem a little too small. The volume control is a two key operation which uses the left function key and a volume key, and that is a slight annoyance as compared to my other HP laptop (NC6220) which takes only 1 key press. The speakers and the LCD display perform very well when viewing HD movie trailers and various DVD’s. There is nearly 25GB of preloaded software, and I removed about 50% of which I don’t care to use or have acquired previously. Microsoft Vista is a decent OS, however I found a case where it was not compatible with my Netgear WGT624V3 wireless router (search the web for details on making a registry change in Vista). I’ll describe my laptop use to be 70% business, 30% casual audio/Photoshop editing and web shopping mostly at home. I’m pretty satisfied with this laptop knowing it’s not a stellar performer but capable one for doing ordinary office work and recreational stuff which doesn’t require the Intel “Genius” processor. It’s a pretty good price performer from HP (and my 3rd HP laptop)
